The summer is unofficially over, the cool air of fall is starting to settle in and, I could not be happier. Fall is my absolute favourite season thanks to the beautifully coloured leaves, Pumpkin Spiced Lattes, Hallowe’en and many other reasons. With a new season comes a new wardrobe but before the fresh fall weather completely envelopes us, we must don our transitional outfits.
Transitional pieces typically include a faux leather jacket here, a lightweight sweater there and a vest thrown somewhere in between. During the transitional summer to fall weather period, I also like to wear pieces of clothing in colours that reflect the upcoming season to get me in the mood for fall. Think of colours like rich reds, warm yellows and black. Although you can wear the aforementioned colours anytime throughout the year, they feel extra special when worn slightly before or during fall.
For this fall transitional look, I decided to wear my red floral skirt from Old Navy. I purchased this skirt this past spring and have worn it all summer. I was drawn to this skirt because of the bold red colour and how the brightly coloured yellow flowers and green leaves complement the red shade. The bright colours on this skirt made for a perfect summer wardrobe addition and coincidentally a great summer to fall transitional piece. The lightweight fabric and modest length keep this skirt comfortable and versatile enough to wear during different seasons. For example, once the weather cools down, this skirt would work wonderfully with black tights, chic, fall booties and a faux leather jacket. In Toronto, September can sometimes have a few mild days so instead of wearing my fall sweaters and thick jeans as soon as September 1st hits I instead like to transition my wardrobe into fall by wearing pieces in darker colours and lightweight fabrics.
I wore this look with one of my favourite black t-shirts that I have had for a about six years. I first bought this t-shirt for a dance performance that I was in and made it a permanent wardrobe staple shortly afterwards. Whenever I find a basic piece that I love, I stick to it.
For my accessories, I wore my other favourite Michael Kors handbag which is a smaller version of the Michael Kors Hamilton tote. I love the classic and luxurious details of this handbag such as the gold lock and large, chunky gold chain. I purchased this handbag as a 26th birthday gift to myself and it has definitely been a worthy investment. For my sunglasses, I am wearing my jade Emporio Armani sunglasses that I got on my trip to Italy. I love wearing these sunglasses because they are the perfect mix of quirky and classic. I chose to wear these sunglasses with this outfit because I wanted to break up the red and black colour scheme by adding some interest.
